Practicum & career

Train where the work is honest, the supervision is hands-on, and the populations are real.

We accept doctoral practicum trainees (PsyD and PhD) for placements that run alongside our adult substance use group, individual, couples, family, and IOP work. Trainees see clients across the Los Angeles metro, learn group facilitation by co-leading with senior clinicians, and receive weekly individual and group supervision.

Training philosophy

Real cases, slow growth, no shortcuts.

Practicum at a community-facing outpatient practice is structurally different from a research-protocol-heavy university clinic. You will see complexity early — co-occurring substance use with anxiety, trauma, depression, family-of-origin work, couples in crisis, IOP patients in their first month of sobriety. Our supervisors expect you to make mistakes, name them, and grow.

We train across modalities — Motivational Interviewing as a baseline, CBT and DBT skills, ACT, IFS, and trauma-informed approaches including EMDR (with appropriate certification path). Group co-facilitation begins in your first quarter, paired with a senior clinician, and gradually shifts to primary facilitation by mid-year.
